The Nova Medical
FUE Protocol™
Every FUE procedure at our Philadelphia clinic follows the same written method, used and refined across the whole Nova Medical network, so your result does not depend on luck or on who is working that day.
What the Protocol Is Built On
The protocol sets out how each graft is planned, removed, stored, placed and looked after, so the finished hair reads as yours rather than as surgery. Our Philadelphia team uses it for every FUE patient, from the first assessment to the final check-up. It rests on four ideas:
1. It keeps improving. Outcomes from clinics across the network are reviewed, and when a better way of doing a step is proven, the protocol is updated for everyone. It is available only to Nova Medical patients. 2. Nothing is left to chance. Each stage, from hairline design to aftercare, has a defined way of being done, which is what makes results consistent from one patient to the next.
3. A properly equipped clinic. Procedures take place in an accredited surgical setting with a sterile workflow and modern FUE instruments, so safety and comfort are part of the environment. 4. One team, one standard. Physicians, nurses and technicians across the network train to the same method and share what they learn, and every patient gets a careful assessment and a straight answer.

Stages
Planning and Mapping
Before anything else, we plan. Your hairline is designed, and the donor and recipient areas are mapped so the graft count, distribution and density suit your face, your hair type and the way your hair loss is likely to progress.
Keeping You Comfortable
Numbing is done in layers so you stay comfortable from start to finish. A relaxed patient helps the whole day run smoothly, which is why comfort is written into the protocol rather than left to chance.
Gentle Extraction
Each follicular unit is removed individually with a micro-punch, using a method designed to keep the follicle whole. Extraction is the point where grafts are most often damaged in ordinary FUE, so the protocol controls it closely.
Protecting the Grafts
Once removed, grafts wait in chilled HypoThermosol solution rather than plain saline, which helps keep the cells healthy until placement. This is one of the protocol’s main safeguards for graft survival.
Making the Recipient Sites
The tiny openings that receive each graft are made at the same angle and direction as your existing hair. These openings largely decide how natural the result looks, so this stage gets the closest attention of all.
Placing Each Graft
Grafts are arranged so the front edge starts soft and builds to fuller density behind it, the way a natural hairline does. Each one is placed with the long-term look of your hair in mind.
The Protocol Compared With Typical FUE
Questions About the Protocol
Quality in ordinary FUE varies a great deal between clinics. The protocol fixes the standard for each step: micro-punch extraction aimed at keeping follicle damage under 2% (versus the 5% to 15% often reported), chilled HypoThermosol storage, layered numbing, recipient sites angled to your natural growth and a graduated hairline, followed by scheduled check-ins as your hair grows.
We start by mapping your current hair, likely future loss, donor supply and goals. On the day, every member of the team has a defined role, so grafts move quickly and safely from extraction to storage to placement. Dr. Val Prokurat, MD, reviews each plan, and the team works with modern FUE instruments in a dedicated procedure room. You can read more about our team on the About page.
Our pricing is in line with other quality FUE clinics in the Philadelphia area. The protocol does involve extra materials and steps, such as HypoThermosol storage and structured follow-up, but better graft survival and a lower chance of needing corrective work usually make it the better value. Grafts are priced individually, with no session fees and financing available.
Each graft goes straight into HypoThermosol FRS, a preservation solution originally developed for transporting organs, which keeps cells stable at 2 to 8°C. Grafts sit in chilled trays and their time out of the body is tracked, a clear step up from room-temperature saline.
The result is judged over months, not on the day, so we stay in touch from your consultation through recovery and growth. Nobody is turned away without a proper assessment and an honest discussion of options, and our clinical staff train regularly on protocol updates. Nova Medical has also been voted the #1 Hair Transplant Clinic in the USA, recognition of the consistency this approach delivers.
